There are memories that we carefully store in an old box with slightly worn edges on the top shelf or in a dusty chest in the old house attic. Some memories are in the form of photos, notes, or objects, but today, we’ll tell you about a memory woven like delicate lace into the fabric of time. It is also the inspiration behind our collection, Forget Me Not – a gently intertwined tale of past and future, unfolding across the soft embrace of the finest bedding.
But how did it all begin?
The Flower in the Chest
Autumn sun. The leaves of the trees in the yard slowly turn gold. Grandma Tsvetanka – a lace-maker from the village of Sestrimo – opens an old chest to show me her handcrafted treasures, preserved for decades.
Between the neatly folded fabrics and intricately crocheted lace lies a hidden treasure – a detachable collar woven with a delicate flower motif.
The intricate details resemble the springtime forget-me-nots. And rediscovering them today fits their name just perfectly.
“Forget me not.”
From Past to Future
A detachable collar is an accessory that can elevate and even reinvent an outfit. It can also remain as a keepsake as the clothes it adorns are changing.
We decided to breathe new life into this woven treasure by using it as an inspiration for a new collection at ODAYA Home. Grandma Tsvetanka – a self-taught master who relies not on patterns but on her artistic intuition – still embraced the challenge of recreating this delicate element. She transformed the curvy edge of flowers from the collar into a trim that would frame and preserve the lac pattern.
Other lace-makers from our team joined in and handcrafted a new story for the forget-me-not collar. The blossoms started adorning the bedding and pillows in bright spring hues – violet, white, yellow, and red trims adorned classic snow-white sheets, and later brought a bold contrast to graphite fabrics.
The Flower vs. The Machine
Then came the ultimate test. All of our products undergo rigorous experiments at our partnering textile factory in Portugal to ensure that the lace does not shrink and that it can withstand the spin cycle of modern washing machines.
During the thorough lab tests, we found the ideal treatment to ensure that the delicate lace remains as durable as possible and retains its original color even with standard home washing. The result? Fine handmade bedding and table linen that can be used for many years be it on elegant occasions or ordinary days.
The Luxury of Being Remembered
We created the Forget Me Not collection for those who believe that true luxury is not just in the material but in the legacy of its story. With every thread and knot we pay tribute to our promise to preserve the craftsmanship, talent, and labour of the old Bulgaria’s lace-making craftswomen. You will be able to keep a fragment of your own story and pass it in the timeless beauty of our linens.
